With Four Days to Go, a Lot of Ground to Gain
Unquestionably, Keiji Inafune and Comcept’s Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter has been a resounding success. With more than $2.6 million raised by more than 46,000 backers, the spiritual successor to Mega Man should live on for years to come.
So far, versions will be developed for PC, XBOX 360, PS3, and Wii U. A $3.3 million stretch goal will add ports to XBOX One and Playstation 4. But overnight, a new stretch goal was added, and given that there are four days left in the fundraiser, it may be a tough one to tackle. Now, a $3.5 million stretch goal will ensure Mighty No. 9 goes portable, with a 3DS and Playstation Vita version added.
“We spent the last few weeks running the numbers and talking with various companies to make certain we could not only deliver great handheld versions of Mighty No. 9, but do it for a price that we could set with confidence,” reads an update on the Kickstarter page. “Luckily, we found a great potential partner in Abstraction Games — the team that recently brought Hotline Miami to PS platforms. If we can hit our stretch goal, they are all set to dive in and handle porting Mighty No. 9 to these handhelds!”
Given that the effort has netted an average of $100,000 a day, an extra $900k on top isn’t totally out of the question. But time is running out. Your contribution can make a difference.
