A Bit Under Initial Estimates

It appears we have our first bit of official data coming in for US sales of Sonic Lost World.  Though the news on the surface may not be as good as some fans want to hear, there are some factors to consider.

According to the Twitter account of Greg Wiggleton, a Wii U developer with apparent access to last month’s official NPD data, the combined sales of Lost World on Wii U and 3DS in October couldn’t crack 30,000:

Before anyone dismisses Lost World as a failure, remember that the game only had 3 days to make a mark in the NPD data, having released in the US on October 29th.  You may also remember the unofficial VGChartz information we showed you that estimated about 46,000 copies of the game had sold in the US launch week, but that data included November 1st and 2nd.  So while it is likely VGChartz overestimated their numbers, we had advised that a number more like 40K-45K was realistic, and it now appears the lower end of that range is a safe bet for the entire week’s haul.

We won’t know how well Lost World does in the US officially until the next NPD report in mid-December.  We will continue to bring you official and unofficial numbers as they come in.
