And you’ll never guess who is registering them
So here’s something weird.
A news story over at Anime News Network reveals that three domains potentially referring to an as-of-yet unannounced Sonic the Hedgehog movie have been registered. The domains include SonicTheHedgehog-Movie.com, SonicTheHedgehog-Movie.net and SonicTheHedgehogMovie.net, all of which (as of this writing) do not yet direct anywhere.
Now, we’ve dealt with phony domain registrations before; you’ll remember the SonicAdventure3.com domain scenario. But it’s here where things get interesting: According to the Whois information on them, all three “Sonic the Hedgehog Movie” domains were registered by “SPD Domain Names Inc.”, the official domain registrar of Sony Pictures. Sony Pictures has been responsible for a whole host of animated movies over the years, including Open Season, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Hotel Transylvania.
Obviously this is the barest thread of information imaginable, but we’ll keep you posted should anything further develop.
