Why You May Wait a While for the Next Update

Considered by many to be the gold standard of 2D Sonic Fan Game engines that are publicly available, the Sonic Worlds Delta engine for Multimedia Fusion 2 and up has its own SAGE booth this year, along with a new update.

Version 1.4.3 is available to download there. Its principal maintainer Techokami told Michael Westgarth in an interview you’ll see in full on TSSZ later this week that the new version adds new gimmicks and other features:

It’s got a lot of neat new gimmicks and features, as well as several bug fixes and refinements. It is an excellent version to start creating a fangame project with, considering that the next update won’t be ready for a long, long time, due to some major internal changes that will be occurring.

What are those changes?  In the interview, Techokami notes it may not just involve the immediate next update, but perhaps the one after that, version 1.5.0, which will require an upgrade for those on MF2:

It will most likely be 1.4.4, as 1.5.0 will be the update that breaks compatibility with Multimedia Fusion 2 (requiring people to upgrade to Clickteam Fusion 2.5), which I want to avoid as long as possible to prevent another outbreak of piracy that until recently held a death grip on the entire Sonic fangaming scene.
