Clarification on Both Fronts

We’ve known for a little bit that Richard Jacques has been tapped to head up music for Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal on 3DS. Now it may appear other parts of the puzzle–who will be part of the music and sound for Rise of Lyric on the Wii U–has been solved.

Alexander Brandon outed himself as sound designer as part of the project in the most nonchalant manner–in a Kickstarter update for an unrelated music project:

To those of you who do not yet have your Era’s End or Just Fun download code, I have your messages! I apologize for not responding sooner but I will definitely get you your goodies asap. Why haven’t I? It’d be easy to say it’s because I’m lazy. That’s the usual reason. But not this time.

I’ve been going until 3am most nights finishing up work on “Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric”! Exciting and exhausting.

So as usual, your patience cannot be appreciated enough. Same goes to the custom tune backers! Everything is in hand and ready once Sonic clocks off later this week to go full steam on your tunes.

Brandon is best known for his involvement in projects like Jazz Jackrabbit 2, the Unreal series, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Dust: An Elysian Tail. It is not clear whether Brandon is the only music professional involved in Rise of Lyric.

UPDATE: Several have written in to clarify to us that Brandon’s role is more specifically sound designer. That could mean music, sound effects, or both. If only sound design and effects, then the mystery of who’s behind the actual soundtrack remains just that.

UPDATE 2: It is indeed sound design and effects. A interview published from E3 with BigRedButton head Bob Rafei notes Jacques will be composing music for both the 3DS and Wii U versions. You can watch that interview below:
