A Dismal Showing for Both Versions
It’s no secret that both versions of Sonic Boom aren’t exactly setting the world on fire; the Wii U and 3DS versions currently stand at a 38 and 39 on Metacritic, respectively. Now, we have hard evidence that the games’ dismal reception and word-of-mouth have translated into bad sales: both versions completely missed last week’s Top 40 Video Games chart in the United Kingdom.
According to the UK Interactive Entertainment Association, the newest entries in the Sonic franchise failed to outsell games that are, at this point, months and even years old. I can’t help but note that Mario Kart 7 managed to come in 40th, and it was released nearly three years ago. Other less recent games, such as Call of Duty: Ghosts, New Super Mario Bros. 2, and the original Disney Infinity also comfortably charted; if nothing else, this serves to underline how much Sonic Boom is struggling in the marketplace.
We’ll have additional sales data as it becomes available. You can find the entire Top 40 list for the UK here. We thank Matriculated for tipping us off about this development. If you have news to share with us, let us know vis the Send Tips link on the top of every page.
