“Sonic Anniversary” Too
Yep. It is definitely that time of the year.
We now have two voice actors that have listed unknown Sonic projects on their resume or website. This time it is Rouge voice actor Karen Strassman, who did the former. You can see the listing in the image provided below:
There are two listings seen: “Sonic II”, similar to the “Sonic Mach 2″ rumored listing from before, and “Sonic Anniversary”. What is noteworthy about the latter is that this is not the first time we have heard this. “Sonic Anniversary” was the code name for Sonic Generations. However both are listed separately, perhaps a suggestion to being reused. Could this be a Sonic 25th birthday title? Either way this is not official word nor is it confirmation. As such it is being labeled as rumor for now.
Still, this may be even more interesting than the Sonic Mach 2 rumor. We’ll let you know more as things develop.
UPDATE: We have more to share on the resume. It was discovered on the SSMB that a version of the resume, dated back from January 22nd, 2012, is still available. Both listings are still on there, indicating that both listings have been potentially in the works for at least two years now (the version found by Stadium is from May 20th, 2014). We’ll keep you updated.
UPDATE 2: The SSMB’s investigating continues. Thanks to the Wayback Machine it was discovered that a March 22nd, 2012 version does not contain either listing. However the listing reappears on a version dated September 5th of that same year. The speculation is now shifting from “Sonic II” being an upcoming game to the listing being a code name from a Sonic game that was either cancelled or already released. As always we’ll let you know on further developments.

I don’t even know what’s going on anymore…
But I am thinking that it might be a 3D remake of S3&K.
Keep dreaming. As much as I love the idea of that, Sega is too dumb and lazy at the moment.
With Rouge in it?
Like I said, I don’t even know what’s going on anymore.
I think it’s time to put S3&K down. There’s not much more enhancements that can be done to it that would make it even better, aside from getting the Taxman treatment, since it’s already a fantastic game to begin with. A 3D remake would just be another nostalgia cop out, no matter how awesome it sounds.
The main reason I want a 3D remake of S3&K is that it would be an Adventure style game.
You see, I’m certain the main reason Generations was so fun was because half of the time and the budget spent on it was NOT dedicated to new concepts, art styles, enemies, etc. Since there was no need to give that aspect much attention, Sonic Team was given a lot more time to nail down game design, level design, and the camera (you do realize that there have been almost no camera complaints for Generations?), and they did so greatly.
If they make a Adventure style game that adapts S3&K, I believe that due to the fact that almost no new concepts are needed (not to mention S3&K sharing a lot of hallmarks of the Adventure series, so it’s really primed), Sonic Team can really get to correcting the Adventure series flaws and make a great baseline for future 3D Sonic games that (almost) the entire world can have fun with and appreciate.
It’ll also give the game the excepted length for $60 (8 – 10 hours), meaning less rentals and more sales.
Sucks that it seems the only way to get a good/great game in this over-budgeted age is to use a humongous baseline that’s already been established as good, but if it means the Adventure formula will get a great comeback, I’ll take it.
Whoops, need to elaborate on something:
And since S3&K is a massive game even to this day, a 3D remake will also give the game the excepted length for $60 (8 – 10 hours), meaning less rentals and more sales.
There’s a copy of the resume from January 22, 2012 with the name on it.

If Rouge is in the Sonic 25th anniversary game then that means Shadow is in it as well, hopefully SEGA finally knows what to do with him. Will be good to have some of the friends back in the games again, really want Shadow Silver and Blaze to return again.
oh boy rouge, everyone’s favorite
06 sequel is coming soon for ps4
That’s been bubbling in my head as well…
Other than a few things like bugs, a few gameplay moments, animation direction, and voice directing… it wasn’t all that bad. If they made a sequel that fixed all the problems they could redeem it maybe.
right. i might get some hate from this comment but from the corny stuff that comes out now.. considering the fact it’s the last game to play in the “adventure” style, i appreciate it a whole lot more now … its not perfect but it has some amazing elements that fans long for now (long stories, multiple characters/super forms, ect.)
I seriously hope this isn’t going to get overhyped by the fans. The last thing we need is a bunch of fans acting disappointed by the final project.
Spin-offs never get a chance to me.
For Sonic 25° Bday, maybe Sonic Adventure 3. Why? Since 2013 any word about a main Sonic title by Sonic Team has been leaked or something like that. Wrong? Maybe. But this don’t mean they don’t working on it, even if the game is for 30° bday of Sonic.
The chances of Sonic Team voice casting a 2015-2016 game at the very start of 2012 are incredibly slim.
I hope the current Sonic voice cast from Sonic Colors and Boom will return for 25th Anniversary.
Sonic Riders 4, that’s what this is gonna be. Or maybe Sonic Heroes 2.
I’d be down for a return to the Heroes playstyle, tbh. It’s been a while since I’ve looked at that game…
Maybe it’s Sonic Generations 2? Generations has been one of the best received Sonic games in a long time. I could see them making a sequel. They have a winning formula that everyone seems to love. They just need to iron out the kinks to make a great sequel. Rouge was in Generations, and would likely be in a sequel too, so that could explain the VA’s resume.
It’s probably a new game entirely though. Sega seems to be enjoying making every new Sonic game something completely different each time. Either Rouge is playable or she appears in a cutscene at least. I just really hope it’s not a mobile game. I’ve played Sega’s last few and I didn’t find them that fun.
Y’all better buckle up, sounds like the shuttle came in to the Sonic Hype Train station.
In all seriousness, whatever this is, I only ask for two things:
1. That it’s somehow going to reconnect with the continuing story they had going on since the Adventure days, that seemed to stop right after Sonic Chronicles happened (I know a lot of you don’t like the whole story connections that SA 1 and 2 started, but that was what I grew up with so :/ ). Doubt it will happen, but still it would be nice.
And 2., that the platforms it comes out for includes either PC, Wii U, or both. I just got a nice gaming PC and a Wii U not too long ago, so if I find out this is going to be another Playstation/Xbox exclusive, there will be fire.
Sonic, buddy, after Boom, I honestly don’t know what to think anymore. You were a huge part of my childhood, so I really don’t want to see you crash and burn.
It’s a miracle that the franchise managed to survive for this long after the fall of the Dreamcast, actually.
If it’s on Wii U, they will make graphical limitations because as alway Nintendo’s still behind the tech race. It BETTER not be on the Wii U, but we already know that there were games coming exclusively to xb1 and ps4, so deal with it with fire I guess.
Why shouldn’t it be released on the Wii U? Just because it’s an inferior hardware? Its a multiplatform series; there’s no reason why they shouldn’t cover all the consoles available for their audience to choose. And it’s not like they’ve never downgraded their games before to fit a weaker console. They did the same thing with Unleashed for the Wii, albeit in a radically different way rather than being a simple downgrade.
Xenoblade Chronicles X, bro. The Wii U doesn’t have that much limitation. In fact the Wii U is so far the only next Gen system that plays games at 60fps.
^This guy right here. I honestly think people don’t give the Wii U enough credit.
In all honesty though, I’d probably prefer to play Sonic on PC, but I’ll be good either way.
Well, with the recent announcement in mind, it looks like I’ll be dealing with it with fire and ice.
(HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO….. I just did a funny 😛 )
Sonic Generations up port to 8th gen with limited new content, pleasing absolutely no one. That’s the only guess I’ve got.
Uhm.. sometimes voice actors are given nothing but code names.. It’s possibly a mix up of some sort with Sonic Anniversary and Generations. .maybe forgetting/not realizing they were the same project
Just remember that even though it’s listed as an anniversary title, it probably won’t be a game that celebrates it. Similar to how Sonic Riders and Sonic ’06 were released as part of the 15th anniversary titles.
Sonic anniversary title just two games after the previous one
Cool
Sonic ’06 sequel confirmed!
