by February 13, 2017 20 comments

It’s official. Our next big Sonic event will be next month. A second panel at SXSW has been confirmed, and we have plenty of info about it to share with you.

  • Aaron Webber, Mike Pollock, Roger Smith, Takashi Iizuka will be in attendance.
  • The panel will occur on March 16th from 5pm to 6pm Central time, 6-7pm Eastern, 11pm-12am UK time.
  • The name of the panel is “Gotta Go Fast: The Official Panel of Sonic the Hedgehog”.
  • The panel will contain an “exclusive behind-the-scenes look at both Sonic Mania and the upcoming Sonic 2017”.
  • The panel will “answer questions about both games, showcase a new reveal for each title, and will discuss Sonic’s resurgence in the world of gaming since the reveal of both games”.
  • And of course, there’s a cryptic teaser suggested, saying “with Sonic involved, who knows what other surprises might be in store?”

I’ll guess that cryptic teaser will either be another Boom game or, far less likely, a PC or mobile port.

Or maybe it’ll just be more godforsaken Big memes.
Yeah, that’ll probably be it. Never set your expectations too high, that’s the Sonic motto. Tho it is decent advice in life in general.

I was thinking the same, most probably something movie related.

I think this is gonna be something different in this game of project 2017. Now we can finally get a official title from project 2017.

Another PC port would be nice. Unleashed or Colors would be just the thing to keep everyone satisfied until Project ’17 comes out.

Hyped for the Mania and Project 2017 stuff! I seem to remember last year’s stream got so much attention, the site almost crashed (maybe that’s an exaggeration).

SXSW again, huh? I guess we’re getting a release date for Mania, along with the final answer to the question of physical copies.
At least we’re getting confirmation that there will be announcements, and not an announcement of announcements like last year.

I don’t recall getting any announcements of announcements. There was like… one announcement to an EVENT where another announcement was confirmed to take place. That’s kinda what THIS is then, announcing SXSW where an announcement will take place (actually they didn’t say there would be an announcement. We’re speculating that. Whoops. XD)

Everyone makes it so dramatic. How can you “leave” a series? We’re constantly leaving and coming back every new game. Do you mean you’d give up all the older games you love as well? You might grow uninterested but that’s normal for many. It’s simple. If you’re not interested but still love the franchise, just play all the old ones you love (the way you would a franchise that already ended, for example) and then just check back with the new stuff now and then and see if anything interests you. Like being on stand by. XD

I probably suck at this “turn your frown upside down” kinda stuff. XP

Can’t wait to finally know more about those games, I’m really hoping Project 2017 doesn’t dissapoint and is a return to form for Sonic.

I heard that they are doing that in March 16. It’s just too far away now. I was thinking of March 2. But now they change it. Besides, I already know those news are coming according to Aaron Webber.

Just no. The Big jokes were fine for just one official event as an ice breaker but there is such a thing as taking things too far. SEGA now owes it to their fans to deliver or they can expect a fallout the likes of which Sonic ’06 and Sonic Boom together could never produce. I sure hope we don’t get something like another lulz-filled reveal of Big’s Fishing Adventure 4 with Aaron signing off with “har, har, guys! We’ll have something to show you real soon. Here’s this to laugh about for now to bide the time. Oh and here’s a cryptic message that (I won’t tell you this) actually doesn’t answer anything important.” There are a zillion fan cartoons that I can go to watch online for a Sonic-themed laugh. Sure, I like the semi-weekly social media posts as a sort of guilty pleasure but SEGA also has to produce the goods or people won’t take them seriously when they want them to (i.e. pay them their hard-earned money for their games). Just a spoonful of skepticism helps the hype go down… I am not getting excited about anything here until I see sufficient tangible evidence showing there is good reason to.

Hey SSF, loooong time TSSZ reader, very infrequent commenter. I have a question for you:

I’ve been following Mania pretty closely up to this point, but now want to avoid learning of any more stages/major announcements with the exception of the release date. I REALLY want to know the release date.

Is there any way a regular TSSZ reader could effectively avoid the other info while still checking to see if a release date has been set?

I know you are by no means obligated to accommodate me, I just want to see if there is any way I can accomplish that that you know of.

    Thanks,
    Swaggless
