Fan Fridays: Fan Game Recap

Fan Fridays: Fan Game Recap

by April 28, 2017

In case you missed it, we were recently treated to the full release of not one, but two high-quality games from the Sonic fan community! Hopefully you’ve had a chance to hear about them and check them out by now, but in case you haven’t, allow us to bring you up to speed.

You’ll likely remember LakeFeperd from such fan classic as Sonic After the Sequel and Sonic Chrono Adventure, but he’s back this time with an entirely original creation – the pixel-art platformer Spark the Electric Jester! This game features Sonic-esque gameplay in that you occasionally encounter long stretches of level that let you run around freely, but the focus is on platforming and beating up on enemies by finding and wielding power-up abilities, much like Kirby would. From jumping to attacking and everything in between, the mechanics feel fluid and satisfying, not to mention the straight-up awesome soundtrack.

If you’re looking for more traditional Sonic fare, then Sonic Time Twisted has you covered! The product of over a decade of work from a group of very dedicated fans, the game features dozens of acts to explore, all featuring the speedy, responsive gameplay that the blue blur is famous for. There’s even a completely unique special stage wherein you race Metal Sonic in environments reminiscent of Sonic CD’s special stages! There’s really an impressive amount of content on display here; both casual and hardcore Sonic fans would do well to take this one for a whirl.

We’ve included trailers for both games below. Spark the Electric Jester is available on Steam for $15, and Sonic Time Twisted is available online for free. If you’ve already played either or both of these games, let us know what you think of them in the comments! As always, we’re on the lookout for fan works to spotlight, so if you have a project you want the world to know about, send us a link at fansonfriday@tssznews.com!
