SEGA Plans To Revive Major IPs, SEGA Sammy Recoving From Restructure

SEGA Sammy’s latest document, a long-term plan for the company called “Road to 2020”, includes various goals that SEGA Sammy intends to pursue for their various divisions. This includes their entertainment/gaming division. Fortunately, the restructure of SEGA Sammy has worked financially. Profits have been increasing, according to the document, in the last couple of years.

The other big information is their gaming-related goals. SEGA’s mission for their entertainment division is to “continue to make moving experiences” and their vision is to “be a game changer”. The company’s goals in this division is for sales to be at least ¥300 billion, an operating income of at least ¥30 billion, and an operating income margin of at least 10%. We also learned that, indeed, Sonic is not being created in Japan anymore. Iizuka’s move to North America to work on Sonic wasn’t just to make Sonic in North America. It seems to be part of a future organization structure for this SEGA Sammy division.

However, the biggest thing learned is their business strategies for gaming in the future, where we learned that SEGA plans to revive major IPs. In the packaged game field, in fact:

Maybe it’s time for Ulala’s Swingin’ Report Show to be un-canceled…Again?

“Revival of past IPs and active utilization of external IPs, etc.”
“Maximize value of IPs by expanding development channels and regions of respective IPs”
Thank goodness. Sega could be making so much more money if they released their games in more regions and on more systems. And reviving old IPs is another big plus. If we’re listing IPs we want to make a comeback, Rhythm Thief needs a sequel.

Pretty much dude. Besides they have some bad financial crisis in 2015 and some of employees lost there job. People say that Sony can’t help SEGA. Now, SEGA is making money to bring back there old titles now.

NiGHTs/JSR please, how about a new Fighters Megamix to breathe some life into both Virtua Fighter and Fighting Vipers? Not to mention it’d basicly be the big SEGA fighting game crossover everyone’s been wanting without having to be a straight-up Smash clone (or a racing game who’s only merit is some NASCAR racer being the star)
It’s been over ten years since Virtua Fighter 5 or any AM2 fighting game. If ARIKA can pull an amazing demonstration of their own potential fighting game their own with their characters from the Street Fighter EX games, SEGA can come in and do something as well with their fighting franchises.
Tbh, as long as you play your cards right and don’t make it a cheap rushed cash-crab that just ends up needing countless updates SEGA, you could potentially beat out Capcom.
But then again, with Capcom’s abysmal handling of Street Fighter V and Marvel VS Capcom Infinite, it shouldn’t be that hard.

6 DLC characters already announced when the game isn’t even completed, art style that looks drab and bland compared to it’s previous incarnations, no X-Men or Fantastic Four characters, a story mode that’s more MCU with a bit of Capcom character than an actual “Marvel VS Capcom” story, over simplifying the gameplay even further and just in general looking like more of the same bullshit that Capcom pulled with Street Fighter V.

    What about NiGHTS? 😮
    Or Jet Set Radio?
Ristar, Alex Kidd, Super Monkey Ball, Ecco, Space Channel 5, Samba De Amigo, Gunstar Heroes, and Chu Chu Rocket, etc.?

There’s so many neglected IPs that Sega seems to be ignoring..I mean, Puyo Puyo didn’t even really NEED a revival because they’ve been making new games for it for a while now. Same with Phantasy Star Online. The ones I’ve mentioned haven’t even been touched since the mid 2000s :/

it they are refocusing or reviving or expanding existing IP’s, then Sonic, and all of it’s media formats would also fall under this scrutiny. What to come of this, however, is still up to debate (more or less), but at least now we kind of know the reasoning for the talks in the first place. It was SEGA thinking 4 years from now, “where do we want to go with our IP’s”

Apparently not in comics anymore it would seem. 😛

I hope I’m wrong and that the worse we get out of this is that Sonic gets a new comic series via another publisher like IDW. If Sega really is trying to diversify and expand how they handle their IPs, current, dormant, and new, then that means they really should be more open and comfortable with partnering up with other entities and actually communicating with them better. Because honestly, a lot of the nonsense surrounding Archie Sonic could have been avoided much earlier on if they had coordinated and communicated better.

In any case, while a lot of this rhetoric sounds similar to previous Sega-Sammy statements, it at least shows promise for a little more cohesion and much needed attention for forgotten IPs, as well as a bit of consistency with previous goals. I just hope that this ends well not just for Sonic, but for Sega and it’s fans at large.

I really hope SEGA will help Michael Latham and his (new) team to revive the ETERNAL CHAMPIONS series because if not, the reboot will be called ETERNAL SUCCESSORS and will not be a real ETERNAL CHAMPIONS game!!…

SEGA looks as a body without head. I’m not in hype for any of their games. And I do not look at it as a great company anymore.

“Revival of past IPs” So does this mean we’re finally going to get a new Streets of Rage game?

This SO much. They could even go the route of the Scott Pilgrim VS the World movie game and have it sprite-based game staying true to the originals. Just don’t do what Capcom did with Final Fight Streetwise

Does that mean Sonc will be as western as AoStH, chili dogs, Crash Bandicoot, Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank, Regular Show, Sonic Boom, and Aki Light (Mega Man 2017)?
