Chao Will Not Be Featured In Sonic Forces

by June 15, 2017 28 comments

Sonic Team, specifically Takashi Iizuka and Shun Nakamura, has confirmed to IGN in an interview that Sonic Forces will not feature the Chao. There was no reason given for the non-appearance, and it is unknown if this is related to Chaos’ villainous appearance in the game.

What about Cheese? Assuming Cream is in the game… she was in Generations so I would say that’s a safe bet we could see Cheese the Chao.

I have a theory with Chaos… in Sonic Adventure Tikal took Chaos to “Heaven” with her… or in this case the “Hero Chao Garden” would make more sense.

This new villain Infinite, if he is a time traveler or dark god or whatever, infiltrates the Chao Garden and overpowers Chaos and threatens to destroy the Chao he protects unless he submits to his service.

This would allow for the Chao to appear in a cutscene and maybe even Tikal who is trapped and urges Chaos not to join him, but Chaos has no choice to protect her and the Chao.

He submits to Infinite and becomes his slave.

Or my theory is thrown out the window and it’s just Chaos from the past before he was neutralized by Super Sonic!

I have little hope for a story as deep and intriguing as that with Pontac and Graff writing the story!

That’s assuming we don’t get the same kind of schlock writing as in Colors and Lost World =^=

That would likely include the Chao tho. Unless they just tell us it happened.

Also Chaos guards the Master Emerald.Or at least the holy summit where Chao come from. He appears when shit goes down. It’s in the games. I’m not making this up. XD

I’m somewhat cautious about how they’re going to handle Chaos without chao around…I hope they don’t just turn him into a generic doomsday minion and not develop him further.

The thing that irks me the most about the whole ‘Chao Situation’ is that they aren’t capitalizing on the Chao whatsoever. I mean the Chao are very marketable and lend themselves perfectly to plushies and other merchandise, not only that but the possibility of a Chao smartphone could be amazing and could make money…. but no… little to no Chao merchandise exist and they choose not to capitalize on a (fairly easy if done right) smartphone game. So much wasted potential, hell Chao could have been the next Tomagachi but nope… at least there are Chao backpacks in Forces… yay?

Inb4 the comments making out Omochao (technically not a Chao) could still be making a comeback.

If so, I will be throwing that infernal robot back into the fiery dark depths of desolation and obliteration from whence he came. >:)

I love Omochao! He’s funny. I didn’t mind him in SA2 but it was funny you could do those things. No one complained about Tikal and honestly Omochao only told you stuff if you messed with him. If it’s obvious, don’t ask. lol

In Heroes and Riders and Free Riders he sounds girly and is s little annoying with how he talks but I also find the obnoxious portrayal as comedic. In Generations it’s s tad annoying flying around you like that but you can turn it off so… Can’t you also get Omochao hurt in Generations too somehow? I forget.

    THERE IT IS AGAIN!

why does every Sonic Forces news that excites me is Immediately followed by one that bums be down?

    – NEW MODERN SONIC GAME AND IT HAS A SERIOUS TONE and Classic Sonic is also there.

    – GAMEPLAY IS AN IMPROVED BOOST STYLE! TAKING WHAT WORKED AND EVOLVING IT! but Wisps are back

    – YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN CHARACTER! but Warren Graff is evolved with the story (I ALMOST lost my sh*t with that one, I wanted to break something)

Granted, this one is a minor thing (not nearly as upsetting as the last one, for sure), but I kinda makes me wonder if they are gonna screw up Chaos’s role in the story, his whole deal is being a guardian of Chao who went crazy when they were harmed. They BETTER have a good reason for him

“They BETTER have a good reason for him”

Agreed. Chaos was neutralized after he observed that the Chao were protected and well-treated by the modern world and was thereafter at peace with the world. That said, this is an alternate future where Eggman won and perhaps this means Eggman successfully reversed every past failure (where his Time Eater plan failed), including taking over Station Square with Chaos. I surely hope Chaos isn’t in here just because he looks menacing and cool. Chaos is far too good of a antagonist to waste his potential on by simply throwing him in for nostalgia pandering purposes. I will dead honest here: if these past bosses are in here just because, that really just makes this a Sonic Generations 2 with “Custom Character” and “& Friends Voice Over” Expansion Packs.

They did show that Chaos was still around in Sonic Battle (and partaking in guarding the Master Emerald, which explains why Knuckles is free to roam around in later game, WHICH BLEW MY MIND) but even then he was docile and didn’t really do anything evil. so yeah… give my boy Chaos a good reason to be there and I’m all for it.

We hope (expect you to hand over your cash) you enjoy more Ohtani orchestra music, P&G writing, more solo-Sonic, more boost-to-win, and more character flanderization! Gotta go fast!”

it’s been confirmed that the story is being written in Japan and Graff is only adapting the script (at least, judging by the dialogue from the E3 demo, looks like he learned his lesson and stopped the cringy puns and jokes. at least for now).

Yeah but was this not already the case before? Cuz the Japanese script is way different in Lost World. It bothers me a little only because I’m used to 3D Sonic games having subtitled and voice options for English and Japanese and the English Subtitles won’t even be translating the Japanese dialogue anymore. In Lost World’s case, Pontac wrote the original script and the japanese changed it. In Forces it will be the other way around. So hopefully they will keep the dialogue as it was in the demo. No stupid jokes and childish puns.

It’s still cringy because it’s the same terrible dialogue during gameplay that plagued what I’ve coined the trilogy of trash before Unleashed realized it needed to go. If there isn’t a option to disable it or mute voices I won’t even consider buying that game and will just use that $60 to send 3 friends Mania I advice anyone frustrated with Forces to do the same rather than thinking you have to force yourself to buy it, you have a choice and buying Mania over Forces sends a message.

Nobody Iizuka not even the TRUE FANS!!!!11 liked the endless aural barrage of dialogue during the Time Eater fight, it being crammed back into this game with a vengeance is an Big the Cat sized red flag to me. Anyone expecting this to be Generations 2 is in for a rude awakening.

Dude. The dialogue in Generations final boss was stupid but it was the only time that happened. All the other times, Dialogue in stages gave story and character interaction which is an EXCELLENT thing to have and it’s what Forces showed us this far. Is ridiculous to think that they’ll do the “its a joming shot!” Thig again just because there will he dialogue during stages

Wait wait, but this isn’t the case with Colors which people also diss. The dialogue isn’t that bad. They’re just going through the motions. Also there IS an option to mute. It’s on your TV remote. 😎 And of course you have a choice… IT’S A GAME! No one is making you buy anything. lol And what message are you trying to send? “Oh I get it. LESS MODERN, MORE NOSTALGIA!!” XD Oops.

I seriously doubt Iizuka personally said “Let’s have them repeat this shit over and over.” You win some you lose some. But there ARE others involved in the process.

“boost-to-win” is completely false. You can’t just “boost to win”. There is tons of jumping involved, and you would lose lives for boosting recklessly.

“Boost-to-win” is just the terminology I use to the describe the current gameplay (since Sonic Unleashed, and I’m being blunt here) where you blast through the stage in a single direction, the camera is constant fixed forward, you have no 360 degree control of your character, can’t spindash, can’t Light Dash, and MUST mast excellent precision quick step and slide maneuvers or else Sonic will hit a solid wall (like a western cartoon character), and be stunned for a few seconds.

Hell, I can post several videos as to why the Adventure gameplay (Sonic and Shadow’s stages) worked so well.

Then why do people call it that in the first place? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen people claim you didn’t have to add any imput.

Honestly, there’s nothing wrong with that gameplay style the way you described it. Though I can understand having a more traditional 3D Sonic preference.

          Well 19 June, 2017, 22:47

Axx, it is an exaggeration. Not literally, “hold right to win,” for example.

        • Axx
          Axx 20 June, 2017, 12:47

Under that same example I give the same response… People make these claims literally. Everytime I hear about boost to win or hold right to win, it’s literal. This is the first I’m hearing anyone admit that it’s an exaggeration xD I mean what’s the point in using those names insultingly if they’re not even claiming it as true? XD hold right to win can apply to most platform 2D games if it’s just an exaggeration lol

“you blast through the stage in a single direction” But it’s not a single direction. Frequently, you have to drift and change direction if you don’t want to fall off. Sometimes you have to move left due to the level design.

“the camera is constant fixed forward” Firstly, the Adventure games did this too. You could manually adjust the camera to unlock it, but generally the camera was always fixed forward. Two, the camera frequently shifts into a 2.5D perspective, so it isn’t always fixed forward.

“you have no 360 degree control of your character” As I said before, you do.

“Can’t spindash, can’t Light Dash” You can stomp. You can slide. You can Homing Attack. You can Air Dash. You can drift. And in Generations’ case, you can Light Dash too.

“MUST mast excellent precision quick step and slide maneuvers or else Sonic will hit a solid wall (like a western cartoon character), and be stunned for a few seconds.” the slide and quick-step areas were somewhat infrequent and only lasted for a maximum of 30 seconds. And, again, slide-required areas were something the Adventure games, especially Adventure 2, did.
