Archie Update: Archie Not Going To San Diego Comic Con, Sonic Freelance Artist Looking For Work

Developments with the Archie Sonic hiatus continue, and the bad news sees no sign of stopping.

Firstly is the news that Archie Comics will not be attending San Diego Comic Con for the first time in 3 years. Secondly is, perhaps, the biggest news out of the two.

Rafa Knight is a freelancer 3D artist for Archie Comics. Her most recent works in the Archie Sonic comics is Sonic #275, which was released in mid-2015, and Sonic Universe #85. The latter came out just 5-6 months before the hiatus started. However, she is now looking for freelance work elsewhere. The hiatus has been hitting Archie Sonic freelancers hard. If that’s not enough, she mentioned the word “cancelled” when bringing up the comics.

Hello, I’m Rafa Knight!
I work at the Sega of America, doing some works for the Sonic Team, and sometimes some works for the Sonic the Hedgehog social media, as a freelancer 3D artist.

It’s a job that I like to do, but it has always been more like a secondary thing or a hobbie, because as much as I wanted, it is not something that give enough return to be my main job, maybe you understand how it is.
For these reasons my main job was on the Archie Comics, where I worked for about 2 years, which also was a very pleasant place to work, but that ended up canceling the comics where I worked.

There’s still plenty of room for debating whether this is a confirmation or not. But it sure doesn’t help ease the growing concerns about the comics. And it is the first time that someone that helps produce Archie Sonic comics has dropped the word “cancelled”.

Sounds like that Riverdale reboot didn’t go as well as they hoped. If I were in charge, I’d sell all of Archie to IDW, and make sure that they continue the stories that were left hanging.

it did fine… the ratings rounded up to around the 1,000,000 mark. With the lowest going to 870,000. That’s just for the premieres, with dvr recordings, every episode great t at least a million views in. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Riverdale_(2017_TV_series) go towards bottom if you don’t believe me

If anyone is going to buy Archie, it’s going to be DC, since TheCW and DC are both owned by Time Warner.

Well, that company that starts with I is the company I hope gets the rights from Sega for the Sonic the Hedgehog comic book rights – but does that I company have its own 2017 San Diego Comic-Con booth?

UPDATE: I checked the 2017 SDCC Comic-Con list, that I company has a SDCC booth of its own! Tell that to the My Little Pony comic book fans!

Mlp… Sonic… Need crossover… I crave cringe… Maybe Sonic going to that I company wouldn’t be too bad after all… Though, if they cut Sally Acorn, then screw that.

Definitely not a good set of news combined, I had thought not going to comic-con was just part of the “reshuffle” but even hearing the word “Cancelled” (especially on multiple lines of comics) makes me think Archie placed a big bet and lost out big on it.

No RIVERDALE TV SHOW panel in the 2017 SDCC also? But I can’t mention not the “cancelled” word, but the “bankruptcy” word?

Given how much IDW is mucking up their once great Transformers comics I’m not certain I want them to have the Sonic license.

I see either IDW or KaBoom… I mean, with idw, you could have crossovers with Transformers, mlp, angry birds, and many others. With kaboom, there is adventure time, steven universe regular show, peanuts, among others.

That doesn’t make any grammatical sense. I think we need a confirmation on what Rafa was actually saying before we can conclude if it means anything.

I honestly don’t know why everyone hoping for IDW to get the comics right, while you have Dark Horse Comics created from the start to be a publisher of derivated product from other media (comics and figurine related to movie, video game and TV show), they have also started to publish manga (Berserk) and they are behind the Star Wars old and new EU comics, IMO they are far more suited than IDW for the job.

PS: small correction after a quick check, in fact Dark Horse Comics also publishing manga since 1987
