We got a lot of Mario & Sonic information today, didn’t we? In a hefty press release, SEGA announced a November 5th release date for the North American launch of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, with its recently-revealed European launch not far behind on November 8th. In the same press release, we got an extended look at the game’s special 2D events, which are more numerous and involved than you may have suspected.
The game will include ten 2D events, including judo, kayaking, platform diving, the 100m dash, and more. These special events are styled in retro pixel art and, cleverly, set at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics, the last time the Games were held in that city. The game will also feature 21 traditional 3D events, with newcomers like surfing and karate joining classics like archery and swimming. Unique Joy-Con controls are supported for certain events, alongside up to 4-player local co-op and online play for 2-8 players.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be available exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
