Though I live in the USA, I was able to get my hands on a cardboard box filled with nearly 100 issues of Sonic the Comic when I was in high school. The level of eclectic artistry in those Fleetway comics was awesome, and pages felt like explorations of how to express the Sonic and expanded SEGA worlds through varying artistic disciplines rather than just simple visualizations of plot. Luckily, much of Nigel Dobbyn’s Knuckles work was represented in my assortment of issues, and I was intrigued by Knuckles stoic expressions and metallic necklace. Both Dobbyn and his talent will be sorely missed.
