Nintendo held a pretty jam-packed Nintendo Direct last week, and with it came a much better look of what we now know to be playable 2D events as part of Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020‘s key storyline: An escape from a new Eggman concoction known as the Tokyo 64.

After the trailer above was shown during the Direct, Sega revealed via a press release the ten Olympic events that will be playable in 2D:

  • Kayak Single (K-1) 1000m
  • Long Jump
  • Marathon
  • Shooting – Trap

We still don’t know whether characters beyond the main franchise flagships will be a part of this mode. We know many of the characters that have been playable in the Olympics series will return for more than 20 events in 3D:
