Is this what the new Sonic looks like?
After the announcement that Paramount’s Sonic the Hedgehog movie was delayed in order to retool Sonic’s visual effects to make him look less scary and more… well, I guess we don’t know what they wanted to make him look like, really. We just knew they were going back to the drawing board. And since then, we’ve waited. Months have gone by. Rumors have swirled about who is or isn’t involved with the redesign. Surely, though… any day now, right?
Now, big grain of salt here, folks, but Twitter user @BestInTheGalaxy has offered us what could be our first look at the new look for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie.

@BestInTheGalaxy offers no concrete proof of where these came from — heck, the guy doesn’t even say anything in his tweet at all, it’s just the images. There’s nothing in his account to point where he may have seen these. I’ve mirrored the images below just in case the tweet happens to disappear:
@BestInTheGalaxy notes about his account:
To everybody following me because of this, I don’t have anything beyond these images that would be useful to you. Just wanted to save the disappointment. All I do on this account is cry and RT shit. Only posted on here for embedding reasons https://t.co/EvNiinwxmO

(And personally, I’d tread lightly, given some of the content on his twitter is very Not Safe For Work)
So are the Sonic images legit? It’s tough to say. I’d like to think I’m pretty good at spotting fakes, given I used to make hoaxes like this for fun when I was younger. But I’m also not fool proof. Whatever the case may be, if these are fakes, they’re pretty good fakes. At the very least, they pass for the real thing. In essence, it’s all the traits of the original design — the fur, the red tennis shoes, the more realistic look — but shrunk down to look more like Sonic the Hedgehog and less like some kind of unfortunate 13 year old child with a rare medical condition.
I’ll never be convinced that it’s okay for Sega to let Sonic have Dollar-Store-bootleg blue arms, but besides that fan boy nitpick, it looks… better. Good enough to forgive the original design? I think we need to see it in motion before making any definitive judgements on that front. But my curiosity is piqued, at least.
If this is real (and again: it might not be!) then it’s safe to assume that an official reveal is nearing completion sooner rather than later. Stay tuned.
