Bentley Jones Alleges “Bullying” by Richard Jacques

by November 11, 2019

Bentley Jones, known in this community for his remixes and contributions to official Sonic fare such as Shadow the Hedgehog and Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing, has alleged in a series of Tweets over the weekend that he endured a “much worse experience” at the hands of Richard Jacques than the one the community reacted swiftly to on Thursday night, when Jacques criticized Sonic Mania composer Tee Lopes for a just-released Can You Feel the Sunshine remix.

Jones, the artist pseudonym of Lee Brotherton, alleges Jacques sent him a series of “abusive emails” upon learning Jones would compose the image theme to ASR. What’s worse, Jones also alleges that when he approached Sega Europe and Sumo Digital about the trouble, they did nothing. Research indicates he has not directly contributed to a Sonic title since.

In a closing Tweet, without naming Jacques directly, Jones said he wants aggressors and those who employ them to be held accountable.

Jacques, who contributed music to Team Sonic Racing this year, has not addressed these allegations publicly, but he did pass off the backlash to his now-deleted comments about Lopes’s remix as “usual Twitter nonsense.”

Sega has also not officially commented on the scuffle or these latest comments.
