Campaign Chronicles ‘08 Contest

This is the official contest page.  Check back often for showcased submissions!

OCTOBER 15th UPDATE: We are now accepting fan art submissions!  So if you’re not inclined to make a video, you can submit still art, Photoshopped art…anything that looks like a campaign poster to “sell” your candidate.  We’re also extending the deadline!  Get those entries in!

When I went to the Sonic Chronicles launch day in New York City, I brought back some pretty cool swag.  Among the trinkets was a copy of Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood signed by the Bioware development team.  There are only a couple hundred copies of this in existence from the launch day…if that.

Now, I’d like to give that away to you.

Announcing the first ever contest by TSSZ News–Campaign Chronicles ‘08.  There will be only one prize–the copy of Sonic Chronicles for the Nintendo DS, with a cover signed by the Bioware folks.

The premise is pretty simple.  Americans are currently underway in what many are calling the most important presidential election of their lives.  As a part of it, we are enduring some pretty nasty campaign attacks on television.  If you believe everything you see on TV (and you shouldn’t), then John McCain is selling us out, while Barack Obama has no economic experience.  Can we afford John McCain?  Is Barack Obama not ready to lead?  Can Sarah Palin really see Russia from her house?

Who cares?  We just want you to mock the ads.

For this contest, we want you to pick any character in Sonic Chronicles and “nominate” them for a class in the game, be it Power, Shifter, or Support class.  It doesn’t have to exactly match their defined roles in the game, either–we encourage some interesting combinations.  We then want you to make a “mock” political video ad in the same style of what we’ve linked above.  The ad can be negative and attack another Chronicles character on any “issue” you desire, or it can be completely positive–just give it that political touch that so many of us are used to in an election year.

So…want Sonic for Shifter class?  Knuckles for Suipport?  Cream for Power?  The choice is yours–just make the video explaining your case and upload it to YouTube, or if you prefer, another video sharing site, if you prefer.  It can be serious, it can be funny, and it can even be off the wall.

When you’re done, E-Mail tristan@tssznews.com with a link to the video, so we can display them under the upcoming “Contest” tab on our site.  Our staff will pick the best one based on creativity and originality, and he or she will win the autographed copy of Sonic Chronicles.

There are a few rules to abide by:

1) No Submissions will be accepted after midnight ET on October 25, 2008. This gives you over two weeks to prepare an entry.

2) In the event of a lack of video submissions, still fan art will be accepted into the contest beginning October 15th, 2008 (This rule is in effect). The same guidelines shall apply to fan art as video…the art will just be in a still form.  Think of the still art more in the line of old-style campaign signs and ads–before television tried to make you think.  A formal announcement will be made in the event this rule is in effect.

3) Keep your entry within the guidelines of good taste.  TSSZ News reserves the right to reject any entry which crosses a line with regard to hate speech, sexual content, or items that would otherwise be generally considered offensive.  So…no furry porn.  Keep it within context of the Sonic community and the Sonic universe, and you’ll be fine.  We do have a good sense of humor, though, so don’t necessarily let this rule impede your creativity.

4) Copycat entries will be discarded. Entries that, in the opinion of the TSSZ News staff, are merely rehashed ideas from a previous entry without bringing anything new will not be considered in the contest.

5) This contest is open to anyone who has a valid shipping address. That means our friends outside the United States can participate.  As long as we have a way to send you the prize via the postal service (or, if necessary, FedEx or UPS) don’t feel afraid to submit an entry.

6) Decisions of the TSSZ News staff are final. Who wins will be a group decision, and not Tristan’s alone.  Likewise, a decision on voiding entries based on the violation of rules three and four will be made as a group.

7) A Winner will be Announced on or about October 27th, 2008. The winner will be notified by E-Mail prior to an announcement on the front page of TSSZNEWS.COM.

So, in short…”nominate” your “candidate” for a class in Sonic Chronicles.  Make a mock political ad, upload it to a video sharing site, and E-Mail us.  Have fun, be creative, and show it off to the world.  The whole team is looking forward to what we receive.
